Pole Saws to Protect Property from Storms and Falling Branches

Many homeowners are not prepared for extreme weather situations. All too often during severe storms or hurricanes tree branches and limbs fall and are blown into structures or on to people. It would behoove homeowners to trim their trees before a big storm. It of course is dangerous to climb up in a tree with a chainsaw and it is quite expensive to call someone to professionally trim your tree.

It is probably wise to pay someone to come trim your tree although many times that is not in the family budget. Yet, if you do not trim your tree you could pay much more later if a branch falls on your car or your house or God forbid a person or loved one. There are plenty of tragedy stories after each major storm, but there is something you can do about it.

You can buy yourself a pole saw. A pole saw is a chainsaw on the end of a pole. The motor is at the bottom of the pole and the cutting page is at the end of the pole. Generally the poles are extremely lightweight and you can lift them up in the air then turn on the power and cut the branch. In doing this you can cut a lot of little branches first rather than one giant one. By alleviating the weight each time you trim a smaller branch you reduce the risk that the larger branch will fall on top of something important.

You can buy pole saws at Home Depot, Lowe's or in the northern tool catalog. A 1.25 hp electric pole saw will cost about $120-$150. The gas powered pole saw will run you about $500-$600 although I have seen them as cheap as $200. It makes sense to trim those trees to protect your property and your loved ones. Please consider this in 2006.
